When it comes to manufacturing in Taiwan, many people may think of the electronics industry first. But in fact, Taiwan also has a strong force in the field of equipment manufacturing-this is the machine tool industry.
Recently, the Quanzhou Equipment Manufacturing Association organized a delegation to Taiwan to conduct exchanges and inspections. A reporter from the China Industry News accompanied the delegation to visit the development experience and successful practices of Taiwan's machinery manufacturing.
Global operation layout to create an invisible champion
The machine tool is called "industrial master machine". Taiwan's machine tool industry has risen earlier, and has been called the world's "four major machine tool" manufacturing bases with Germany, Japan, and Italy in the early 1990s. Silicon Valley in the United States is famous all over the world, and Taiwan also has a "valley". Some people call it the "golden valley of precision machinery"-this "valley" is a large Taichung area where many machine tool companies gather.
According to the data, there are nearly 2,000 manufacturers in the upstream, middle and downstream of the Taiwan machine tool industry, of which nearly 90% are concentrated in the Taichung region, and the output value per unit area of this region even ranks first in the world.
In this approach to Taiwan's machinery manufacturing enterprises, a reporter from China Industry News visited many machine tool manufacturers in Taichung. Most of these companies are invisible champions in subdivided fields, and they have extensive experience in global operations.
Founded in 1989, Shangyin Technology Co., Ltd. is one of the world's most complete manufacturers in the field of transmission and control. It is also the world's largest manufacturer of ball screws, the world's second largest manufacturer of linear slides, and the most complete variety in the world. Professional robot manufactory, the world's largest supplier of coordinate robots for semiconductor equipment, the service field involves machinery manufacturing, factory automation, aerospace, power, metallurgy, etc. According to Song Xiande, the person in charge of Bank of China Technology, the company has been in a global layout and division of labor cooperation for a long time, and currently has factories in China, the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. Through global operation, division of labor and cooperation, HIWIN has become a leader in the field of transmission and control, with a turnover of NT $ 30 billion in 2018.
Youjia Group is the world's third largest machine tool manufacturer. Through global mergers, acquisitions and acquisitions, it currently has 37 professional brands and 50 production bases in the world. The group's 96 companies have an output value of approximately US $ 6.6 billion. In mainland China alone, Youjia Group has 20 factories; there are 11 and 16 production bases in Germany and Japan, which are highly developed manufacturing industries, respectively. Miao Wuliang, deputy general manager of the tool business department of Youjia Group, introduced that through the multi-brand and sub-domain operation model, it has established a huge sales network and technical support in the world. On the road to globalization, Youjia has eclectic and leveraged its advantages, while absorbing the experience and practices of high-end manufacturing in Germany, Japan, and the United States, and continuously optimizing and upgrading, achieving great success. At present, Youjia CNC machine tool ranks first in the global automotive field, second in the aerospace field, third in the energy field, and fifth in rail transportation.
Yinghan Technology is one of the world's largest manufacturers and suppliers of metal bending machines, and its application fields include automotive, aerospace, chemical, food, and home leisure. In 1995, Yinghan developed the world's first fully automatic bending machine with PC-Based as the main control system; by 2003, Yinghan had become a professional partner of GM and other world-renowned automobile manufacturers to assist them in developing High-performance workpieces to meet the market demand for new lightweight and energy-saving vehicles. Hu Bingkun, chairman of Yinghan Technology, told reporters that in addition to tube bending machines, Yinghan Technology also uses global investment to set up factories to provide users with more competitive automated central control production lines and whole plant equipment.
The development and integration of globalization has brought together global talents, technology and resources for Taiwanese enterprises. The exploration of globalization is inseparable from the protection of intellectual property rights. The reporter learned that in terms of patent applications, the number of patent applications in Taiwan is currently the fifth highest in the world, and the number of patents in important markets such as the United States and the European Union remains top. Many companies in Taiwan will introduce a patent search and analysis service platform for related patent analysis and protection work. At the same time, there are a wealth of patent system training courses to enhance the protection of intellectual property rights.
Explore Industry 4.0 and propose new ideas for manufacturing
With the wave of Industry 4.0 sweeping the world, Taiwan's machine tool industry is also vigorously exploring this aspect. The machinery industry is the third-largest trillion-dollar (unit: NT) industry in Taiwan. During the visit, we saw that Taiwan's machinery companies have made active practices in sensing technology, Internet of Things, big data, robot control, human-machine collaboration, and intelligent flexible production systems.
Youjia Group independently created a "factory private cloud" platform to realize the interconnection and integration of the mechanical equipment layer, control system layer, and cloud application layer. During the visit, relevant personnel of Youjia Group demonstrated some of the functions of this system, including intelligent supply chain system, visual storage and distribution system, etc. In terms of informatization construction, Youjia has also gone through a long run-in and basic preparation. Miao Wuliang, deputy general manager of the tool business department of Youjia Group, believes that the basis of informatization is to make employees willing to use it, and to collect it in the simplest way. Through the collaboration of cloud platforms, Youjia Group has also realized the optimization of production management.
Fuyu Enterprise Co., Ltd. is one of the top ten machine tool factories in Taiwan, and its products span the manufacturing of a full range of professional machine tools for turning, milling and grinding. Its customers include GE, Xi'an Aero Engine Group, Hitachi and other companies. Especially in the field of grinding machines with high precision requirements and high added value, Fuyu has long been the number one leader in the grinding machine industry in Taiwan. In order to achieve a high degree of integration of hardware and software, Fuyu independently developed the industry-leading software system for grinding machines. Chen Yufan, product manager of Fuyu Greater China, said that the company originally used the industry-specific software system, but because the software developers did not understand the machinery and equipment, it did not achieve the best results. To this end, the company made up its mind to independently develop the grinding machine system, let the technical staff learn programming and code from the beginning, and train their programmers with "dumb kung fu", and finally create an independent grinding machine software system, and trigger the industry to follow suit.
HIWIN believes that manufacturing is not an end, but to meet human needs. Manufacturing is a service, and service is the source of innovation. During the exchange, HIWIN demonstrated a medical equipment production line based on core transmission technology and precision manufacturing. Through the development of rehabilitation equipment, care equipment and surgical special equipment, Shangyin Technology has become a participant in improving the quality of human life with automated medical equipment.
Taichung Precision Machinery Factory, established in 1954, has always played a pioneering role in the development of Taiwan ’s industrial automation. With the advent of the “Industry 4.0” era of intelligent manufacturing, the company adjusted its business strategy and proposed the “Industry 4.0 Best Integrated Manufacturer "'S new role and positioning. During the visit, the reporter learned that Taichung Seiki has independently set up a small batch of "Industry 4.0" production line to run production, mainly engaged in CNC lathes, integrated processing machines and so on. In line with the business strategy of "One R & D, Two Production, Global Marketing", seven manufacturing bases on both sides of the Taiwan Straits and seven global marketing service centers have been established. Taiwan Machinery Manufacturing also impressed reporters with its industrial design and production of key components such as constant temperature storage, constant humidity control, professional testing, and lean management.
