8. Electric power steering system
How EPS works
When the driver operates the steering wheel to perform steering, the torque sensor monitors the steering wheel steering and the magnitude of the torque, and transmits the signal to the electronic control unit. The electronic control unit sends the signal to the motor according to the torque, the direction of rotation and the speed of the vehicle. Commands are issued to allow the motor to output auxiliary torque in relative magnitude and direction, making it easy to drive. When the car does not turn, the EPS does not work.
EPS technology features
● Energy saving and environmental protection
Since the hydraulic pump is always in working state when the engine is running, the hydraulic steering system increases the fuel consumption of the engine by 3%~5%. If the motor is used as the power component, it can work independently of the engine, so it does not directly affect the fuel consumption. There is no oil leakage problem in the hydraulic power steering system, so there is no pollution to the environment.
Hydraulic power steering system efficiency is generally 60% to 70%, while EPS is as high as 90%.
The traditional pure hydraulic power steering system cannot meet the portability and road feel required by the car at various speeds. The EPS system can be compensated by software to meet the operating conditions at each speed.
